Terms of Service

Effective 3 July 2026

The short version: Honeybot is a free moderation tool. Use it to catch spam bots, not to trick people into bans. It comes with no guarantees, you stay responsible for how your server is moderated, and we can suspend service where it's abused.

1. Accepting these terms

By adding Honeybot ("the bot", "the service") to a Discord server or using its commands, you agree to these terms on behalf of yourself and, if you administer a server, that server. If you don't agree, remove the bot. The service is operated as a hosted service; contact [email protected].

2. What the service does

Honeybot creates decoy ("trap") channels in your server. When a non-exempt account posts in one, the bot softbans it: a ban with up to a 1-day message purge, followed immediately by an unban, so the account is removed and its recent messages deleted but it can rejoin. Trap channels are labeled with a pinned warning, and channel names rotate periodically. Details of current behavior are described on the home page.

3. Your responsibilities

4. Fair use of the service

You agree not to abuse the service: no attempts to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to it, and no use of its features to violate law or Discord policy. We may remove the bot from a server, or block a server or user from the service, where we reasonably believe these terms are being violated.

5. Moderation outcomes

Honeybot is built to avoid acting on legitimate members — it never acts on the server owner, administrators, moderators, other bots, or roles you exempt, and it skips action when it can't verify permissions. Even so, no automated moderation is perfect. A softban is deliberately reversible (the affected account can rejoin), and you are responsible for reviewing catches (the log channel and /honeybot stats exist for this) and for making final moderation decisions in your server.

6. Availability

The service is provided free of charge and on an "as available" basis. We may update, change, suspend, or discontinue it (in whole or for your server) at any time, with or without notice. We aim for reliability but promise no particular uptime.

7. Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for moderation outcomes in your server — including messages purged by a softban or members removed by the trap. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

8. Privacy

What the bot stores (and the much longer list of what it can't see) is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

9. Discord

Honeybot is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Discord Inc. "Discord" is a trademark of Discord Inc.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the bot after a change means you accept the updated terms.
